Description

It is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug and specifically a COX-2 inhibitor. Used for relieving pain and inflammation. Also used in treating arthritis.

IPR Status

  • Application submitted to CSIR for filing Indian patent.   Ref. No.   0163NF2018.

Salient Technical Features

CSIR-IICT has developed the flow process for celecoxib. The process involves condensation of diketone and 4-hydrazinylbenzenesulfonamide hydrochloride in a combination of methanol and water as a solvent system to synthesize celecoxib with a yield of 85% after quenching, separation and purification

Scale of Development

•  CSIR-IICT has developed the continuous flow process for celecoxib at 1.54 mmol h –1 . (3 g per 12 h with the existing units).

Status of Commercialization

•  Process is ready for demo and can be scaled up for commercial plant

Major Raw Materials to be Utilized

•  4,4,4-trifluoro-1-( p -tolyl)butane-1,3-dione and 4-hydrazinylbenzenesulfonamide hydrochloride.
