Ground Water Prospecting

Product/Process

Process to prospect ground water resources.

Application/Use

Dugwells, borewells for drinking/irrigation water.

Salient Features of Process/Technology

Exploitation of groundwater resources is well established since time immemorial. The proposecting of ground water has so far been based on ad hoc methodology. The modem scientific approach employs the study of resistivity contrast and density contrast to delineate water bearing underground geologic structures. The resistivity survey is based on the principle that water alters the electrical resistivity and enhances the pattern of electric current flow. Data on earth's resisistivity and spontaneous polarisation potential is used in water prospecting. The technology is very useful in prospecting water resources. Resistivity meter surveys are reported to provide a 90% success ratio.

Status of Commercialisation

Extensively used for prospecting ground water.

Equipment and Machinery

DC electrical resistivity meter. Approx. cost of a resistivity meter: Rs. 0.10 lakh
