A Process For Passivation of Galvanizing Surface

Home » Technology » New Technologies » Metal and Metalworking Industry » A Process For Passivation of Galvanizing Surface

Type of Technology

Indigenous

Area of Technology

Materials and Material Science

Brief Description

The process is simple, low capital intensive and can easily be adopted in small /large scale sectors. In the process, the ingredients are dissolved in hot (85+ 5°C) water with high speed stirrer and cooled. Activators and passivators are prepared under controlled conditions and mixed with other ingredients. The process is simple and does not required big plant and machinates.

Major raw materials

  • Water borne polymers
  • Chromium based compounds
  • Acids (Inorganic / organic / surfactants / oxidizer)

Major Plant Equipment/Machinery

  • HDPE Tank
  • High speed stirrer
  • Immersion heater etc. costing Rs 2.00 lakhs (approx.) All are indigenously available.

Area of Application

Minerals, Metals and Materials

Applications

Finds major application for the passivation of galvanized tubes and sheets to prevent white rust

Status of Development

The process standardised at a scale of 3000 litre per week.

Ecological/Environmental Impact

Reduced pollution hazards as the process contains low Chromium (VI)

Technology Transfer Assistance Offered

Includes

  • Process know-how
  • Details of the equipment
  • Plant lay-out
  • Quality assurance methods. Assistance in setting up the plant and separate terms

Additional Information

A plant with a capacity process 3000 litres passivator per week costs approximately Rs. 12.0 lakhs. Ideally suitable for the small scale industry.
