Introduction

As an alternative to conventional chemical process for removal of hair from skins. The process employs solid state fermentation for the production of enzyme by a new Aspergillus flavus strain using wheat bran as substrate. The enzyme loosen hair from skins and eliminates bating step in leather processing. Enzyme has good caseinolytic activity over a broad pH range with no effect on the collagen or elastin.
