Technology Description

Every year 210 million* people suffer from minor or major bone fractures. Immobilization therapy is one of the ancient and proven method to treat such problems. But, Patient has to suffer lots of discomfort and complication because of limitations of the currently available casts which are nonwashable, non-breathable and heavy weight.

Considering these problems, we invented a new castFlexiOH, which is washable, allows skin to breath and very light weight. In addition to that, patient can have better visibility to skin under cast hence many skin related complications can be prevented by prompt action. FlexiOH is easy to apply and remove through its specially designed zip.

Ultimate skin comfort:

Almost all cast immobilization being used currently do not allow air circulation under cast. As a result patient suffers from perspiration under the cast, leading skin irritation and itching. FlexiOH have multiple holes over surface which allows free air circulation to skin. Which should provide more comfort throughout treatment.

Better Skin Hygiene:

FlexiOH is made up of washable material hence it doesn't restrict patient's routine activity such as bathing, swimming, and working with water. And, it also helps patient to maintain better skin hygiene.

Light weight:

FlexiOH (current alpha prototype 4) is lighter in weight (~300 grams) in comparison to conventional cast such as POP cast (~1500-1800 grams), Glass fiber cast (~450- 900 grams). Light weight allows more comfort while doing routine activities. We are still improving design and trying to bring it to less than 200 grams.

Better visibility under cast:

With FlexiOh, Observation of skin through multiple holes is possible. In addition to that FlexiOH is made up of semitransparent material, so any significant changes in skin under the cast are easily noticeable.

Application and removal of the cast:

FlexiOH has specially designed zip which allows easy application and removal of the FlexiOH without any mechanical instruments. Potential Iatrogenic injuries during removal of conventional cast can be completely avoided with the use of FlexiOH.
