Introduction

Indian research & development organisation offers the technology of Live Attenuated Peste des Petits (PPR) Vaccine. Product Presentation:- Vaccine: Freeze dried in a glass vial (50 doses) Diluent: 50 ml in a polypropylene bottle. Product Utility:- PPR is acute, highly contagious and fatal rinderpest like disease of small ruminants and in unprotected animals the mortality may reach 60-70%. PPR virus was first reported in India in 1987 from an outbreak in Tamil Nadu and since then the disease was reported from all over the country. The use of rinderpest vaccine to protect small ruminants against PPR is contraindicated because its use induces antibodies to rinderpest, which compromises sero-surveillance for rinderpest. Hence, the present vaccine was developed for control of PPR in sheep and goats. It is used for prophylatic vaccination against PPR in sheep and goats. Instructions for use: The freeze dried vaccine should be stored and transported at 2-8 deg C.

The vaccine diluent should be stored in a cool and dark place. Chilled diluent (4 deg C) should be used for reconstituting the vaccine. For administering the dose, a small aliquot of diluent from 50 ml bottle provided (phosphate buffered saline) is to be transferred to the vial containing freeze dried vaccine and mixed well to ensure uniform suspension. Then, the suspension is to be transferred to the corresponding diluent vial and mixed well. Only sterile syringes and needles should be used. Then, 1 ml of the reconstituted vaccine is injected to one sheep or goat subcutaneously.
