Description

An Indian institute, engaged in the Mechanical Engineering Research and Development since 1958, has developed the technology for raking machine. It consists of a frame with rake pads mounted on the front side and two wheels on the back. A scooping blade arrangement is fixed on the shaft which is supported by the frame. A wheel through a chain-drive rotates these blades when the machine is pushed. Scooping blades scoop the material and push the same to the back, in the space provided for it to fall. The machine can rake the coffee beans and cherries and can be operated by a single person instead of two persons in the conventional type. In plantation, coffee beans and cherries are sun dried on large tiled/cemented floor. Repeated raking of coffee beans and cherries is needed so that they are exposed to the sun uniformly and dried uniformly.
