Mixing and Extrusion
Technology for Polymer Blends and Alloys
Introduction
The development of blending technology has proven to be an
extremely interesting and relatively low cost method to obtain
tailored polymer blends and alloys with more flexible properties
than existing polymer. Mixing is precursive to successful
polymer blend formation and compatiblization. The single screw
extenders and other continuous mixers are mainly used for
compounding. The structural and morphological features of
polymer blends and alloys are the result of complex interaction
between the physical properties of the components and the
mixing process. The morphology developed in the blend has
a major influence on the mechanical properties. In order to
provide reliable quantitative measures for predicting the
morphology of the blends and alloys and to optimize processing
conditions following study has been carried out: Extruder
screw design for mixing improvement Determination of mixing
performance in an extruder by using the designed experimentation
technique
