Alloys of
Polybutylene Terephthalate (PBT) and Polypropylene (PP)
Introduction
Alloys of polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) and polypropylene
(PP) using a suitable compatibilizer with PBT being the major
component have been developed. Alloys of this nature provide
materials with a combination of mechanical properties suitable
for engineering applications. The incorporation of PP helps
in processing, mechanical properties modifications and cost
reduction. The blending of PBT and PP to attain desirable
performance properties requires the incorporation of a third
component in small quantities which acts as a compatibilizer.
The properties are dependent upon the morphology achieved
in these three component systems, which has been studied /
established. Such alloys could be used in several load bearing
applications in the consumer industry, electronic industry,
automotive and other transportation sectors.
Prospective
Users: Manufacturers of PBT or PP, manufacturers of
polymer blends and alloys, manufacturers of moulded articles
made from polymerized materials especially for engineering
applications
