Disaster Management Package
Technology Description
This technology
is disaster management or emergency medical kit designed to
provide rescue workers with a comprehensive set of tools and
supplies that are most commonly needed in emergency or disaster
settings. The kit is designed to meet the needs of a wide
array of disaster or emergency scenarios such as:
- Floods
- Earthquakes
- Fires
- Automobile or train accidents
- Industrial accidents
- Crowd-related incidents (stampedes)
The kit is comprised of two major components:
the Sanjeevani Floating Stretcher and the Rescue Kit. Each
is described below.
The Sanjeevani Stretcher is designed as
a multi-purpose rescue device. The stretcher is intended to
be used as a conventional stretcher or carry-litter for use
in transporting the injured. When not in use, the stretcher
folds into a small shape and can be stored inside the Sanjeevani
kit bag. Unlike conventional stretchers, the Sanjeevani stretcher
is always a part of the rescue kit and there is no need to
carry a separate, conventional stretcher. Another advantage
that the Sanjeevani stretcher has over conventional stretchers
is its flexibility. Unlike standard, rigid stretchers, the
Sanjeevani stretcher can be flexed to pass through small openings
or through a stairwell.
Another key feature of the Sanjeevani
stretcher is its ability to float. Flotation allows the Sanjeevani
stretcher to transport victims across flooder expanses. It
can also be used as an emergency flotation device that can
aid in the rescue of people stranded in flooded areas.
The Sanjeevani stretcher can also be used
as a body bag for the transport of deceased victims. To use
the stretcher in this manner, the body is placed inside the
bag and the zippers are closed, securing the body securely
and hygienically.
The Sanjeevani stretcher is rectangular-
shaped stretcher bag made of non-woven fabric material, with
zippers running along both sides. Eight handles are provided
to facilitate easy carrying of rescued victims. A flexible,
one inch thick Polyurethane foam sheet is sandwiched inserted
between two layers of material on the bottom side of the stretcher.
The foam provides buoyancy for the stretcher.
