Recovery Multizone Well Completion
Technology Description
The technology
is a new process for oil and gas production from multilayered
oil/gas fields. This innovative oil and gas production process
will help to accelerate production and improve recovery with
reduced costs. The technology will help in the efficient production,
separation, handling and transportation of oil, gas and water
in the upstream sector of the oil and gas industry.
As a general practice, different wells
are drilled for different zones encountered in a reservoir,
and oil and gas zones are not produced together from the same
well. The DASS technology will help in allowing production
from all the oil and gas zones available in a well and do
so through one well thereby saving significant drilling costs.
The core innovation is a production chamber
which, when installed inside the casing, changes the entire
conventional production process. With this technology, the
fluid from the reservoir is produced to the innovative production
chamber and from the production chamber it flows to the well-bore.
The production chamber is set over pre-drilled perforations
in the well wall. The fluids from the reservoir enter through
the perforations.
Multiple production chambers can be installed
in a well depending upon the number of zones available for
production. The production chamber is fitted with a non-return
valve restricting any fluid flow from the well-bore to the
reservoir thereby eliminating interlayer cross-flow of fluids.
After the fluid enters into the well-bore, the liquid and
gas are separated (dominated by gravity segregation and centrifugal
action). The gas is produced through the annulus space (the
void between any piping, tubing or casing and the piping,
tubing, or casing immediately surrounding it) and oil is produced
through the tubing.
Key aspects of the technology include:
- It will produce through single tubing
and eliminate the complexity of lowering multiple tubing.
- The valves and functionality of the
DASS well can be controlled from a control panel at the
surface.
- It allows for a well completion which
offers all the advantages of multiple tubing completions
with commingle production and achieve it with a single tubing
well completion.
- The production chamber is a new invention
and part of a new oil and gas production process. All the
fluid from the reservoir is produced through the production
chamber to the wellbore and it stops the backflow of well
fluid from a high pressure reservoir to a low pressure reservoir
thereby stopping inter-well fluid cross-flow.
- The utilization of annulus space with
DASS is believed to be different. In conventional wells
annulus space is idle throughout the life of the well. In
DASS, the annulus space between casing and tubing is used
as a separator.
