Technology Description

Project Surya_Kiran is a low cost, highly customized solution that provides heat and dust control in existing Indian homes, while providing its users drastic electric power bill savings and positively impacting their health.

This technology was invented for homeowners in India to combat intense summer heat waves and dust particles that enter into homes. It was invented by Lt. Col. JJ Singh in India to make homes dust-free and cooler without the use of traditional air conditioners.

It is a relatively user friendly solution which utilizes nylon nets, a lime and glue mix, and a 12"-18" 1000 rpm desert cooler (commonly referred to as a swamp cooler or evaporative cooler in the U.S.) to lower the temperature in the home. It also uses HDPE (High Density Polyethylene) sheets as filters which are commonly found in plant nurseries. These sheets absorb 20-25 percent solar radiation which still allows sufficient light for reading and photosynthesis of plants. Anchors, binding wires, clamps, or Velcro tape are also employed for installation of the nets.

Potential Benefits of The Technology

The main problems this technology aims to solve are reducing temperatures in the homes and preventing dust particles from entering the homes while drastically lowering monthly electricity bills during the summer months.
