Technology Description

The technology is related to preparation of high purity and fine grained alpha-alumina at low temperature. This technology helps in preparation of pure and fine grained alumina powders at low temperatures (Temp.450-550C), therefore, it is very cost effective. Secondly, it is free from other forms of alumina impurities; therefore, it is highly pure.

Applications

Pure alpha-alumina is a widely used ceramic raw material because of its high melting point, high strength at high temperature, easy to form composites, resistance to acids and alkalis, very good dielectric properties etc. It is used for fabrication of high alumina refractories and lab wares, dielectric materials, chips for computers, grinding media, abrasion resistant linings in coal industries, as chemical resistant linings, as high temperature and high strength material, for preparation of composites, textile thread guides, armours etc.

Benefits

• The process uses temperature <550 C compared to 1400-1700 required usually for sol-gel process.
  
• Raw material is very cheap, it uses an intermediate product processed for Al industry.
