Based Engineering
Technology Description
This technology is a proprietary "Knowledge Based Engineering(KBE)"
process which allows an organization to fully automate the
design and engineering of complex machinery.
Currently, designers and engineers of complex machinery utilize
design tools such as CAD (computer aided design) and ERP systems
independently of one another with no automated process for
knowledge collation. The KBE process created by Adroitec Information
Systems Limited, a New Delhi based company, led by Mr. Amit
Gupta, allows an organization to streamline the design process,
integrating highly complex data from multiple sources.
Adroitec claims this process can reduce design time by 85-90%,
and reduce required materials by 15-20%. Adroitec also claims
that utilizing this process will enable an organization to
do more complex design and engineering with much fewer resources,
making them more competitive and profitable. It is delivered
in an easy-to-use format requiring lower-level operations
skills. It is modular, and flexibly structured, so that all
updates on software platforms, new design variants, new design
rules, new enterprise function integrations, etc., are quickly
and easily achieved.
The technology is applicable to the design and engineering
of any type of machinery, where it is critical to reduce cycle
times and increase enterprise responsiveness to customer's
unique needs in order to remain competitive. Two target market
areas are the oil and gas industry equipment manufacturers
and power equipment manufacturers.
According to Adroitec, the elements of their KBE process are:
1. Analyzing and defining the product architecture of assemblies,
subassemblies and components, with their respective functions
2. Analyzing legacy design variants to arrive at all possible
design combinations
3. Creating and defining proprietary design algorithms and
practices
4. Creating a universal dimensional code schema which defines
every dimensional parameter in the system
5. Linking algorithms and dimensions for creating a design
frame work for fully parameterized 3D design. Also creating
a dynamic design link between components and assemblies across
the product
6. Developing the comprehensive library of 3D parametric components
and assembly models
7. Programming 2D drawing templates for automated generation
of detailed manufacturing drawings
8. Automating the integration of design data with engineering
functions like analysis, computer numerical control programming,
sheet metal development, tool and die design, etc.
9. Automating the integration of design data with enterprise
functions like bill of materials, sales documentations, operations
and maintenance manuals, product lifecycle management, and
enterprise resource planning.
According to Adroitec, the results of an organization implementing
this KBE process are:
1. Design cycle times are reduced by 85-90%
2. Optimized design generally leads to material reduction
by 15-20%
3. The technology enables the organization to rapidly develop
new design variants
4. These factors lead to reduced costs, higher throughput
from sale resources, and faster response to the changing needs
of the organization's customers. There is a direct impact
on the top and bottom lines and on the competitive edge.
5. The organization's know-how is protected against manpower
attritions
6. The need for frequent in process checking is minimized.
This ensures inbuilt quality assurance of the design and engineering
process.
Potential Benefits of The Technology
Adroitec claims to reduce design and engineering cycle times
by 85-90%, though interviewee Jeremy Carter of Fallbrook Technologies
estimated that for a company utilizing existing systems, such
as a CAD system, it would be more like 15-20% reduction in
cycle time.
