Digital Retinal Imaging System
Technology Description
The technology is a medical device. It
consists of an illumination module, a camera module, a software
module, a PC interface and an infant interface module. The
device enables digital imaging of the retina, in a simple
to use, handheld format that can be easily used in rural areas
by minimally skilled personnel.
Applications
This device can be used for screening pre-term babies in
for a condition called Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP), for
screening adults for diabetic retinopathy in diabetic clinics,
and finally for routine examination of the eye by ophthalmologists
and ocular oncologists.
Benefits
- Fifty-fold lower cost than comparable technology available
in the market.
- Uses a novel, infant interface, that minimizes the need
for skilled personnel for using the instrument with pre-term
babies (patent pending)
- It is the only compact, battery operated retinal imaging
device, available in the Indian market, that enables the
recording of images for use with medical record systems.
- Uses non-contact optics, with no compromise on the actual
field of view - resulting in significantly less trauma for
the eye.
