Programmable Device for Control/Automation Applications
Technology Description
This technology
is a programmable electronic control device. The primary purpose
of the innovation is to allow a user to create simple programs
that can control real world processes. The Controller, called
BiBox, is a hardware and software platform that is contains
sensor input circuits, control output circuits, along with
an on-board computer to create simple control systems. Two
examples of such simple control systems are an educational
robot, and simple machine controls such as turning motors
on or off at appropriate times.
BiBox is designed to simplify the programming
of its computer, thus allowing users without sophisticated
programming skills to write useful and functional control
programs. A visual programming methodology is used, allowing
users to create contriol programs by connecting icons on a
computer screen, instead of writing code in a programming
languare. Through the use of the visual programming method,
the innovator envisions making programming available to a
new and broader group that does not require traditional programming
skills or training.
In addition to the BiBox controller, other
ancillary devices and support hardware will be developed to
become part of the BiBox environment. Addition sensors and
controller are envisioned.
The BiBox is also designed to provide
control functions for use in non-educational, real-world control
applications. For example, a properly programmed BiBox could
be used to control lighting in a home or to control water
pumps on a farm.
With BiBox, the innovator is seeking to
find a useful process control capability that combines:
- Useful control functions
- Simple construction, including programming
- Low cost
