| Fleshing
Meal
Introduction
It is essentially an animal protein meal which can be incorporated
in feed formulations of poultry and piggery by substituting
fish meal, meat meal and maize which are not abundantly available
in the country and are also costly. The process for preparation
of fleshing meal involves washing of limed fleshings available
abundantly in the beamhouse of a tannery, followed by deliming,
degreasing and subsequent drying as well as pulverizing to
get the product in powder form. The unique feature is that
the process provides an eco-friendly as well as economical
option to convert limed fleshing, which would otherwise add
to pollution and disposal problem, into an animal feed, thereby
creating value addition and utility to a byproduct of tannery.
