Introduction
As an alternative to conventional chemical process for removal
of hair from skins. The process employs solid state fermentation
for the production of enzyme by a new Aspergillus flavus strain
using wheat bran as substrate. The enzyme loosen hair from
skins and eliminates bating step in leather processing. Enzyme
has good caseinolytic activity over a broad pH range with
no effect on the collagen or elastin.
Environmental Aspects: This
process is environment friendly
Machinery / Equipments:
Humidifiers; Air conditioners; Autoclaves; Kneader mixers;
Pulverizer; Perforated trays; Hot air blowing system; Boiler
etc.
Raw Materials: Wheat bran
Status Of Commercialization :
Process standardised and tested in tanneries.
Techno Economics: Estimated
investment for a plant of 300 TPA is around Rs. 10 millions
Technology Package: Process
knowhow, process demonstration, quality assurance methods,
project report, training of personal, assistance in implementation,
data on effluents.
