Process for making milled grain side leather from buffalo hides

Application/Use: For travel goods, ladies hand bags, uppers etc.

Salient Features of Process/Technology

The process consists of liming of hide to open up the fibrous structure; lime splitting; special treatment for milled grain chrome tanning effect with minimum chrome; levelling of substance treating with chrome syntan; application of fatliquors and dyes to achieve proper lubrication and light fastness properties; finishing with binders; dry milling.

Status of Commercialisation: Commercialised.

Minimum Economic Unit Size: 250 sq m/day.

Indicative investment: Rs.50 lakhs.

Equipment and Machinery: Usual tannery equipment.

Raw Materials: Buffalo hides, lime, chrome syntan, fatliquors, dye, binders.
