Hydrological
Information System
Introduction
The Hydrological Information System (HIS) is a fully GIS based
application Sotftware for groundwater data processing, groundwater
resources assessment, subsurface modeling, geological inventory
and water quality assessment. This is the India's first integrated
groundwater application software, and is useful to geologists,
hydro-geologists, water resources engineers, water resources
managers and decision makers involved in the planning, development
and management of groundwater resources. It could be also
useful for academic and research institutes, besides the practicing
engineers. The HIS has been indigenously developed by Tata
Infotech Limited in association with Dr. A.K. Keshari and
of Water Resources Section, Department of Civil Engineering,
IIT Delhi. Dr. B.P. Parida of the same department was also
associated with the deveopment in the initial stages. This
HIS application has been developed using MAPInfo-a GIS tool,
Vertical Mapper-a 3D Modelling tool, SPSS, Mapbasic , VC++,
Robo Help and Seagate Crystal Reports. HIS can be invoked
for digital image processing too, as it is integrated with
the remote sending packages, like EASI/PACE. The groundwater
assessment is based on the GEC97 methodology that has national
and wider acceptance. This software is being implemented to
all groundwater departments participating in the Hydrology
Project operating under Ministry of Water Resources, Govt.
of India; Besides CGWB, these departments are in the states
of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Orissa, andhra Pradesh, Maharasthra,
Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerla.
