Absolute Optical Angle Encoder
Introduction
A national research organisation is offering a technology
for absolute optical angle encoder. The encoder provides absolute
angle information with 0.35 degree accuracy. It operates with
a grey coded disc, infrared transmitters and receivers. The
output is 10 bit grey coded TTL data. The encoder data can
be transmitted and displayed at a distant place with the help
of a signal processor and display unit. The signal processor
converts the encoder data into BCD format which can be transmitted
on a Rs 232C line. The display system receives Rs 232C data,
converts them into parallel lines and displays the angle on
seven segment displays. The total system operates on +/- 12
V DC. The system has been developed for use in small and medium
size satellite earth station antennas for providing look angle
information. For an antennas, two encoders are required for
mounting on two axes. Use of RS 232C line enables placing
display unit away from the antenna and use of minimum number
of transmission lines.
