Beta-Cyclodextrin

Introduction

Beta Cyclodextrin is a cyclic glucoside with a cavity into which hydrophobic substrate will bind in water solution. Like crown ether, a cyclodextrin can act as a host to guest molecules. Cyclodextrin has a unique ability to molecularly encapsulate and thereby modify the apparent physical and chemical properties of guest molecules that is the objective of global research activity. Cyclodextrin inclusion complexes bring about improvements such as stabilisation of light or oxygen-sensitive materials, control of biologically active substances and modification of the chemical activity of guest molecules.
