Product/Process: Process to manufacture water filter candles.

Application/use: The candle can be fitted to various domestic containers for getting potable water.

Salient Features of Process/Technology: The process consist of grinding china clay of the body mix containing materials like insulated brick powder, quartz, feldspar, calcite etc., along with organic materials, preparation of casting slip and then casting the candles in moulds of desired shapes. The candles are dried under Sun and then fired at temp. 950 to 1100°C.

Status of Commercialisation: Commercialised.

Minimum Economic Unit Size: 100 candles/day

Indicative cost/unit: Rs. 7 lakh

Equipment and Machinery: Ball mill, blunger, sieves and wood/coal fired updraft kiln or electric/oil fired kiln.

Raw Materials: China class, plastic ball clay, quartz, feldspar, calcite and organic materials as pore formers.
