Slates are required in millions in our country
by students mainly of primary and middle school level. The
emphasis on adult education has further enhanced the demand
for slates. Conventional slates are made from slate-stone
found only in a few places in India. Consequently the slates
have to be transported far and wide. This not only increases
the cost but also involves considerable breakages as the slate
is brittle. Therefore, need was felt for a better substitute
for the conventional slates.
A paper slate developed is a good substitute
for the conventional slates. The special features of paper
slate are that it is light weight, does not break easily,
is cheap and does not lose abrasiveness quickly.
