Application /
Use: Removal of fluoride from drinking water
Salient features of technology / process
Fluoride is known to be reversibly absorbed
by aluminium hydroxide. The elctro-chemical process involves
the generation of aluminium hydroxide by the anodic dissolution
of aluminium / its alloys. The process operates on DC at a
voltage of 2.0 - 2.5 V. With this process, 5-10 ppm fluoride,
usually encountered in the ground waters of many of the regions
in India, can be reduced to 1.0 ppm, being the acceptable
concentration of fluoride in drinking water. The process operates
at an energy consumption of 0.3 - 0.5 KWH of electricity per
1000 litres.
