Introduction

UK based company, a leading supplier of equipment and technological services for latex & plastic dip moulding and other specialised dipping applications, offers the technology and equipment for manufacture of internal urinary catheters. The process of manufacturing internal urinary catheters involves a number of dipping operations in different materials and traditionally the catheters are made on batch systems, often using several units of individual machines, tanks and accessories for production. Flow-line systems are, however, often better for high capacity plants reducing operator requirements and work load. A flow-line system offered by the company is set up in a rectangular format so the formers return to the beginning of the production line.

The manufacturing process involves upto 15 dips but this is dome with a series of seven machines and intermediate drying ovens, with two or more tanks at each dipping station. Operator access for stringing and balloon attachment is provided on a section of roller conveyor with sufficient access to ensure that the manual operation does not slow the overall production output. This type of system can incorporate varying degrees of automation. The company also offers a mobile machine specifically designed for urinary catheter dipping. The machine is track mounted and passes over a series of tanks of coagulant, latex and other materials dipping into them as required. The dipping batch can take up to 320 catheter formers at a time. Each material requires a different dipping speed and these are easily set and changed according to the product profile and dipping depths accurately controlled. The machine is available in manual or semi automatic form, and the traversing action can be mechanised and pre-programmed or remain as a manual positioning system relying on the operator.
