Kit for Progesterone
Introduction
Clinically progesterone measurement is of use in confirming
occurrence of ovulation, in assessment of luteal function
and to check the effectiveness of procedures for induction
of ovulation. In the female, following the mid-cycle surge
of LH, corpus luteum development begins, with an increase
in the circulating levels of progesterone thus confirming
ovulation followed by normal development and function of the
corpus luteum. Maximum levels reached by 5 to 8 days after
ovulation and decreased to follicular phase levels approximately
4 days before menstruation. If pregnancy takes place, progesterone
levels remain elevated and increases progressively throughout
pregnancy. Serum progesterone levels are also useful to evaluate
patients at risk from spontaneous abortions in early pregnancy
and for monitoring replacement therapy.
The enzyme-linked immunosorbant assay (ELISA) developed is
a quantitative in-vitro diagnostic method for measuring Progesterone
in serum. It is a simple two-hour ELISA method for direct
measurement of progesterone in serum. ELISA kit based on our
technology is quick, specific and sensitive. The major components
of this test have been found stable at specific temperature
for certain period.
This is a 2.5-hour assay requiring 50 m l serum. The kit
is under evaluation for stability and performance and will
be ready with in few months.
The cost of the kit will be around Rs. 1,500/- per 100-tube
kit. Marketing costs will be extra.
