Introduction
The Central Council for Ayurveda & Siddha, under Ministry
of Health & Family Welfare has developed the the technology
for above preparation. A herbal compound consists of Brahmi(Centella
asiatica), Vacha(Acorus calamus) Sarpagandha(Rauwolfia serpentina),
Kusta(Saussurea lappa) Tagar (Nymphoidi macrospermum) and
Jatamansi (Nardostachys jatamansi)
Psychosis is the most elaborately dealt in Ayurveda. It is
described to be caused on account of unwholesome food and
improper physho-behavioural activities, which impair the three
Dosa viz; Vata, Pitta and Kapha. In Unmada, Manas or Mansadosa
viz. Rajas and Tamas are also affected. Hence treatment to
restore Tridosa imbalance should be coupled with correction
of Mansadosa. It is rightly defined as a Manasavikara caused
due to the vitiated Saririka and Manasadosas with a mounting
upward pressure and manifesting as the unsettled condition
of the Manas (mind), along with the impairment of other seven
factors described earlier.
Clinical Trials
Clinical trial was conducted using Brahmayadiyoga. Significant
improvement was observed. The results are comparable with
modern control chlorpromazine. Controlled studies were conducted
in acute schizophrenics, chronic schizophrenics and acutely
ill patients with different types of schizophrenia using Brahmyadiyoga
and Tagara. These studies were done in association with the
Department of Psychiatry, NIMHANS, Bangalore with Brahmydiyoga..
Process
Powder the above materials to 100 mesh powder in the prescribed
proportion alongwith some additives like starch, gum acacia,
etc. and sodium benzoate. Powder & additives are fed into
a ball mill for uniform mixing and fine grinding. The mass
is then granulated. The granules are dried at 70oC in a hot
air drier. The granules of the desired size are fed to a heavy
duty tablets making machine. The tablets are strip packed
to protect them from the atmospheric moisture.
