Multiple-Processing
of Coconut
An Indian research company is offering
the technology for processing coconut into 4 different consumer
good items: coconut protein, oil, honey and flour.
The steps involved in producing protein
and oil are: extracting of coconut milk, filtration, spray-drying
and separation of protein from oil. The protein obtained is
used in baby-food and other food preparations, while oil obtained
is used for cooking and other household purposes.
Honey is produced by filtering and evaporating
the clear coconut juice. To obtain the flour, the fluffy mass
left after milk-extraction is dried ground, and standardized.
Raw materials needed are coconuts. Among
the equipment required are shredders, evaporators, condensers,
distillers, vacuum pumps, boiled and compressors.
A plant producing 10 tons of coconut oil,
2 tons of coconut protein, 3 tons of coconut flour and 1 ton
of coconut honey per day requires an investment of USD 1.8
million.
