Introduction

A four-day International conference on nanoscience and technology (ICONSAT-2012) will be held in the city during January 20-23.

Organised by the International Advanced Research Centre for Powder Metallurgy and New Materials (ARCI), the event will have a special lecture by Prof. C.N.R. Rao, Chairman, Scientific Advisory Council to Prime Minister, on ‘Graphene, Graphene Mimics and their unusual properties'.

Supported under the Nano Mission initiative of Government of India, the biennial conference has attracted 800 participants from all over the world. A technical exhibition to be held concurrently will see the participation of over 40 leading companies from India and abroad associated with the field of nanoscience and technology will participate.

Dr T. Ramasami, Secretary – Department of Science & Technology, will inaugurate the exhibition. ICONSAT-2012 will also feature a line-up of eight plenary lectures, 22 keynote lectures and 19 invited lectures by renowned scientists, apart from contributed presentations.

The organisers have also made a special effort to encourage future generation of researchers by enabling totally expense-free participation of nearly 200 young researchers from various Institutes/Universities/Colleges across the country to present their work.

Another interesting feature of the ICONSAT-2012 is the satellite program “Nano for Young”, which is to be held on January 21. The above program will specifically target first year B.Sc./B.E./B.Tech. students and provide them an opportunity to interact with leading scientists, besides making them aware of the vast promise of the exciting field of nanotechnology, a release said.
