Platinum Jubilee Volume of INSA Released
Scientific community and Government should
work together to make India a great power of the world. Shri
Prithviraj Chavan, Minister of State (I/C) for Science &
Technology and Earth Sciences while releasing the Platinum
Jubilee Volume Science in India: Achievements and Aspirations
brought out by Indian National Science Academy (INSA) here
today called upon the Scientific community to tackle great
challenges the country is faced with today.
Listing the challenges, he said that our nation is facing
energy security, food security, water challenges, challenges
of climate change and national security challenges. Science
has to come forward to improve the living standards of the
countrymen. He also made a mention of the initiatives taken
by Government to attract young talent towards science. Government
aims to increase R&D allocation from 1% to 2% , he added.
Elaborating the contents of the volume released, he informed
that it contains 29 articles by experts under the headings
Our Heritage, The Torch Bearers of Indian Renaissance,
Laying the Foundation of Resurgent India, In Search of Excellence
(covering areas such as Agriculture, Astronomy and Astrophysics,
Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Biology (both modern and
integrative), Engineering, Technology and Industry, Plant,
Animal and Earth Sciences, Traditional and Modern Medical
Sciences, Nutrition, Biotechnology, Biodiversity, Climate
Change and Water).
Dignitaries present on the occasion included Prof. M.G. K.
Menon, Shri M. Vijayan, President INSA, Professors H.Y Mohan
Ram and P.N Tandon editors of the volume.
