Jammu & Kashmir - Investment and Industrial Policies

Industrial Policy (2004 - 2015) New

The state cabinet accorded approval to its path breaking Industrial Policy 2004. With a view to give stability to the policy, it was decided that the Industrial Policy 2004 shall remain valid until March 31, 2015 when it will be reviewed. The cabinet emphasized on the need to promote local employment in industrial units of the state. If specific skills are not available in the state, special training will be organized to train local youth in such skills. Ensuring maximum local employment in industrial units will form a condition of approval for any new industrial units. The cabinet also laid great stress on ensuring that the incentives and subsidies reached the genuine industrialists without much loss of time.

Information Technology Policy

Information Technology (IT) is having an enormous influence on global economy. It has revolutionized the nature of human interaction and has become a prime mover for services. IT is now close to becoming the most important driver of the global economy. The competitiveness of a country’s economy and well-being is getting closely aligned to its ability to innovate and participate in the IT industry.

The State Government is seized of the significance and enormous potential of IT in the economic development of the State. It would facilitate the creation of a sound IT production base in the State through conscious efforts and policy initiatives enumerated in this document.

Small Scale Industry Policy

Small Scale Sector is defined in terms of limits on investment in Plant & Machinery as notified vide Government of India Notification dated 10th December, 1997.

Whereas the Central Government considers it necessary with a view to ascertain which ancillary and small scale industrial undertakings needs supportive measures, exemption of other favorable treatment under the Industries (Development and Regulation) Act 1951(65 of 1951) (hereinafter referred as the said Act) to enable them to maintain their viability and strength so as to be effective in promoting in a harmonious manner the industrial economy of the country and easing the problem of unemployment, and Securing that the ownership and control of the material resources of community are so distributed as best to subserve the common good.

Web Policy

Government of J&K realizes the importance of World Wide Web Services and its capabilities to provide information to the citizens across the world and to reduce the gap between the Government & Citizens. Public domain information needs to be published on the web, with objective of "Fast & Easy Availability of information & Services Technically (FEAST)". The state government intends to provide information & services to the citizens using Internet. A need has been felt to standardize the web related issues across the state. This web policy is expected to ensure a uniform standard amongst the existing web sites of various departments and also ensure speedy development of web sites for the departments that are in the process of developing their own websites.
