The Expert Committee
on the Integrated Energy Policy brought out by Planning
Commission in August, 2006 projected energy requirement
upto 2031-32 for GDP growth rates at 8% and 9%. The
projections are given below:

Formulation of programmes/schemes
to cater to the growing energy needs of the country
is an on-going process. During the course of 11th Plan,
schemes aggregating over 78,500 MW have been identified
for commissioning. In addition, 14,000 MW is envisaged
through renewable energy sources. The Working Group
on Coal, and Lignite for formulation of 11th Five Year
Plan has envisaged indigenous availability of 680 million
tones of coal in 2011-12 though various schemes to be
implemented by various stakeholders. The Working Group
on Petroleum and Natural Gas for 11th Plan has projected
production of crude oil to the tune of 206.76 Million
Metric Tonnes, and projected production of Natural Gas
to the tune of 224.6 Billion Cubic Meters during the
course of 11th Plan.
