-GIS Based Water Resources Decision Support
System
Introduction
The product is a generic integrated watershed management
tool for local level planning. A distributed Hydrological
model namely SWAT (Soil and Water Assessment Tool) with
GIS pre and post processor is the main component. This
is used for sustainable watershed development using
the scenario generation capability of the model. The
same has been tested on two pilot projects one at Kolar
Karnataka and the other at Bankura, West Bengal and
many other Indian catchments of varied sizes. This product
helps the end-user in integrated watershed management
approach, concentrating on water resources management
aspects in a watershed which comprises of many models
to simulate the behaviour of major prevalent processes
in the watershed. These models include, flow generating
models, demand generating models and sediment Yield
models.
Salient features:
Centralised database management system, watershed simulation
model (SWAT) with GIS intengration (with Arc View),
SWAT hydrological model with indigenous GIS package
GRAM ++ developed at IIT, Bombay, Spatial District Profile,
Peripheral Software for Weather generation, Soil characteristic
generation, Soil Series of India View and query module.
