Oximeter Module (spO2 monitor)
Introduction
Oximeter
Module (spO2 Monitor) is a medical instrument used for
monitoring of oxygen saturation in the blood. Continuous
blood oxygen monitoring is essential in critically ill
patients in ICU as well as in other patients with cardio-respiratory
complications. Due to its non-invasive mode of working,
this module can be safely used on patients without causing
any harm or discomfort. The principle is based on the
light (Red & Infrared) absorbtion property of blood.
The monitor gives relative concentration of oxygenated
hemoglobin and total hemoglobin (oxygenated & deoxygenated)
to yield the oxygen saturation percentage of the blood.
This module can be integrated with available Patient
Monitors or can be used as a stand alone instrument
with a microcontroller and a display unit.
