Fresh Water Prawn Hatchery
Introduction
Scampi farming is fast emerging in
India for its very high return/hectare and ever increasing
export demand. Since the hatchery produce seed are uniform
in size, are of same species and without mixing with
seed of any other unwanted and predatory fishes are
available round the year unlike the natural seed which
are available only during particular months in a year
and hatchery can be designed to produce huge numbers
of seed as per demand, the demand of hatchery produce
seed has been ever increasing. Considering the vast
areas being brought every year under scampi farming
and the fact that absence of large scale places like
Vijayawada & Nellore, there is very high demand
for hatchery produce seed in the state of Maharashtra
as well as in Gujarat, MP, Bihar, Bengal.
Raw Materials:
Seed production technology of M.rosenbergii
is developed in India, spawning takes place when salinity
fluctuates from 5-20 ppt. Fecundity is normally 1-2
lakh eggs and incubation period is 19-20 days
