Technology for Powdered Azadirachtin-A Rich Concentrate
from Neem
Introduction
An Indian institute
has developed technology for preparation of powdered
azadirachtin-A rich concentrate from neem and is interested
in offering it for commercial production.
The powdered azadirachtin rich concentrate
of neem is prepared from its fruits, seeds, kernel or
cake by employing polar/ non polar solvents. The mixer
of neem seed kernel/cake and polar/ non-polar solvents
is put to extraction/ partitioning/ precipitation processes
to get Powdered azadirachtin-a rich concentrate (20-30%).
Areas of Application
All industries engaged in manufacturing
of neem based pesticide formulation may require azadirachtin
- a concentrate for the preparation of formulation of
desired azadirachtin strength.
Advantages
The process is easy and efficient.
Convenient to handle, pack and transport.
Neem based products have emerged as a viable option
for pest control as against synthetic pesticides.
Production Capacity
The present process is being demonstrated
on bench scale. Its scale up has to be undertaken in
consultation with a chemical/plant designing/ fabricating
engineer.
Stage of Development
Through lab-scale it has been transfered
to one unit for Rs. 5 lakh plus 1.5%, royalty

Major machinery:
Stainless steal blenders, Distillation unit, Online
filters, Storage tank, Seed decorticator,
Seed crusher and instrumentation including HPLC. Raw material: Neem seed,
solvents, chemicals etc.
