Biochemical and Biotechnology-
Clarification, Protein Fractionation and Waste Removal
Introduction
Fouling and concentration polarization
are two important effects on the membrane filtration
which can make this unit operation uneconomical if not
properly controlled. A lot of experimentation and theoretical
studies were carried out to understand better these
twin characteristics about the membrane. The concept
of critical flux was understood using a 2-D model. The
conditions for optimum operation of protein solution
filtration through microporous membranes were obtained
experimentally. The study helps in carrying out protein
separation effectively using membranes.
Special Features:
Mass transfer coefficient measurement
from protein transmission data using low concentration
solution. The extension of concentration polarization
model for 2-D geometry Extension of membrane application
for proteins fractionation.
