Techonologies - Biogas Plant Based on Water
Hyacinth
Introduction
A national research organisation
is offering technology for biogas plant based on water
hyacinth. This biogas plant is a floating gas holder
type plant. It consists of a digester, gas holder, inlet
and outlet assembly and a stirrer. Digester is a circular
well constructed underground. Gas holder is a semicircular
dome made of mild steel and moves in a water jacket
around the digester. The inlet is provided through the
gas holder and the outlet for the slurry is provided
at the bottom of the digester. Stirrers are provided
for mixing and also for breaking the scum. The
biogas production rate is 0.3 litres/litre of digester
volume. Total
biogas yieled from green water hyacinth in 50 litres
per kg of feedstock.
The percentage of methane in biogas is 75-80.
Marketing of the manufactured
product: Marketing should be done by the licensee.
Biogas : The technology
is especially suitable for municipality or Gram panchayat
for the generation of fuel gas (Biogas). Fuel gas is
ideal for engine shaft power and thermal application.
The plant is easy to operate and maintain. Operation
and maintenance manual has also been prepared.
Three such plants are installed in the field.
