Industrial Development Corporation
Established on 1st August 1962, Maharashtra Industrial
Development Corporation (MIDC) is the primary industrial
infrastructure development agency of the Government
of Maharashtra.
A US $ 10 billion organization, MIDC works on a supply
driven concept wherein it provides plots in industrial
areas which are replete with a 5-star infrastructure
and amenities such as:
Continuous water supply
Wide well planned roads network
in the Industrial Areas
Underground power lines
Pollution Control / Waste Management
Schemes
Communication facilities (telephones,
fax, modems)
Moreover, MIDC has a host of multinational
companies as its clientele, of which more than 50
belong to Fortune 500 list.
Maharashtra Industrial
Development Corporation, popularly known as MIDC, was
established with the basic objective of setting up industrial
areas with fully developed infrastructure all over the
Maharashtra for a planned and systematic industrial
development.
Activities
and Future Plans
MIDC has been appointed
as a nodal agency by the Government of Maharashtra for
the implementation of developmental schemes for industrial
areas announced by the Central and State Government.
The primary activities of MIDC are:
Development of industrial areas
by identifying and acquiring land.
Preparing layout with suitable
grouping of plots of various sizes and allotment
of plots on leasehold basis.
Construction of roads, drainage
system, and provision of streetlights in the industrial
area.
Planning, implementing and managing
water supply schemes.
Establishing Common Facility
Centres (CFC) by providing accommodations for bank,
post office, telecom facilities, police station,
fire station, medical facilities, eating houses,
etc.
Establishment of effluent collection
and disposal systems for chemical zones.
Implementing Government/Semi-Government
projects.
Currently every district of Maharashtra
has at least one industrial area established by MIDC.
As on 31st March 1997, there were 274 industrial areas
notified by the State Government, out of which 88
are major areas, 63 are State Government's growth
centres, 5 are Central Government's growth centres,
and 118 are mini industrial areas. The total land
notified for acquisition in all these areas is 85,903
hectares. Out of the 274 industrial areas, 272 are
in the possession of MIDC.
In keeping with the industrial
policy of the Maharashtra Government, MIDC plans to
undertake the following projects in the near future
Development of mini airports
at Sholapur and Nanded and link them with commercial
air service to Mumbai.
In every district, development
of mini airports with capabilities to land aircrafts
upto 40 seater capacity, for the use of industrialists.
This shall bring every industrial estate within
100 Kms from its nearest airport.
Setting up infrastructure for
aquaculture development in the coastal districts
of Maharashtra as specialized industrial zones.
Making efforts to get the New
Industrial Townships Authority declared under the
Maharashtra Municipalities Act, 1965 for different
industrial areas.
Setting up industrial townships
in order to integrate industrial development with
urban development at select centres in Maharashtra
like Nandgaon Peth (Amravati), Sinnar (Nasik) and
Guhagar (dist. Ratnagiri).
